VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
With the new year we are in need once again for volunteers for the take-home library. We are looking for help everyday, but mainly Mondays and especially Tuesdays. We are also looking for people that can be a back-up in case a parent cannot come in. It is a fun and easy way to get your hours. The time is from 8:30-10:30. If you are interested, please email Mrs. Beacham at dbeacham@gwacademy.org

Report on GWA Open House
Parents, teachers and prospective GWA families toured our now-occupied east wing Jan. 12, then listened to presentations by UAPCS President Chris Bleak (UAPCS is the charter school lobbying association) and Utah Senator Steve Urquhart.
Mr. Bleak stressed the continued need for everyone's involvement in securing a future for charter schools in Utah, encouraging parents and faculty to attend local caucuses - perhaps becoming state delegates - to further the issues important to charters. The biggest issue facing charters, since their inception in the state in 1998, is funding. Only our continued attention to this problem will keep it foremost in the minds of our legislators, thus ensuring the survival of charter schools.
If you were unable to attend but would still like to see the new classrooms, you can always contact our office staff to arrange a short tour. You should also take a minute to see the amazing murals now adorning the walls in our library. Incredible!
A Huge Success
Final Numbers are in From GWA Fall Carnival
As in prior years, supporters of GWA demonstrated their unmatchable generosity during our Fall Carnival. Parent and student volunteers poured many hours of energy into making the event a success, and the numbers show that it all paid off.
This year's basket auction raised $7,735. Yes, you read that right; nearly $8,000 for our teachers to dip into for classroom supplies. The money was separated by grade level, and has already been deposited into the teachers' accounts.
Thank you to everyone who donated items for the auction!
As to the rest of the carnival...
Overall, this single event brought in $19,446! Let me type that again... $19,446!
Proceeds will be made available to the school and are targeted for purchase and installation of a sunshade for the new playground area.
Next year's crew will need to work hard to surpass these numbers, but is there any doubt they'll succeed?
