Carnival Success

Final Numbers are in From GWA Fall Carnival

As in prior years, supporters of GWA demonstrated their unmatchable generosity during our Fall Carnival.  Parent and student volunteers poured many hours of energy into making the event a success, and the numbers show that it all paid off.

This year's basket auction raised $7,735.  Yes, you read that right; nearly $8,000 for our teachers to dip into for classroom supplies.  The money was separated by grade level, and has already been deposited into the teachers' accounts.
Thank you to everyone who donated items for the auction!

As to the rest of the carnival...

Overall, this single event brought in $19,446!  Let me type that again...  $19,446!

Proceeds will be made available to the school and are targeted for purchase and installation of a sunshade for the new playground area.

Next year's crew will need to work hard to surpass these numbers, but is there any doubt they'll succeed?

Carnival Raffle

Wow!

That's the only word that comes to mind when we think of how many raffle tickets were sold this year.  In the short time tickets were available, our student body was able to sell 11,000 of them.

Congratulations, students. Your efforts make a huge difference at GWA!  Your pride in yourselves and your school shines through via efforts like this.  Once again you've demonstrated what you can do, and the successes you can realize, when you put your mind to something.

Wow!

Watch Our Progress

posted Sep 2, 2011 3:16 PM by Phil Loomis

Recently there have been several visible signs of progress in our ongoing construction projects.  You've probably noticed the new electronic sign by the sidewalk near the southeast corner of the new two-story addition.  The sign will be used to keep you informed of meetings, special events and other important goings on.  As a test, it has been showing date, time and temp. Did you know it was 96 degrees at pick-up on Friday?

You may also have noticed the grass being installed on our playfield.  By the time this is published, installation will be complete and you'll probably see the sprinklers running quite a bit as we work to get the sod established in its new home.  We're not yet certain when it will be ready for the kids to access, but it shouldn't be too much longer.  We await the "go" from our landscape team (who, by the way, also did a fantastic job on landscaping the front of the school and the area around our play structure).

Finally, though you can't see it from the front, you probably know all about it from looking at the blisters that have appeared on many little hands.  Yes, our new play area is in, and is a big step up from our older playset!  If you have a chance, stop by and take a look for yourself.

Keep watching for more progress. Construction is still on track to be finished on-schedule and we are extremely pleased with the results.  We think you will be, too.

GWA Uniform Store

Whether new to GWA or a returning student, chances are good that you find yourself needing a few more uniform items for the upcoming year.  As part of your GWA wardrobe we require that each child have at least one shirt with our school logo.  These are currently available from our  internet store at http://www.companycasuals.com/GeorgeWashingtonAcademy/start.jsp.

If you have any questions about uniform requirements at GWA, you may see our dress policy under the "Parents" tab on this web site, or contact the office staff for additional information.

An Easy Way to Raise Funds for GWA

There is now a terrific way to raise funds for our school. It's super-easy, and all you have to do is use your Target Visa Credit Card or Target debit card. We will receive a percentage of the amount of each purchase in the form of a cash donation from Target through the Take Charge of Education program. It's easy. Just visit target.com/tcoe, or call 1-800-316-6142 to designate our school. So if you're going to Target anyway, please consider using your Target Visa Credit Card or Target debit card. Big thanks to those who are already doing their part to make a great school even better.

  • Find out how much money our school has already received at target.com/tcoe.
  • Grandparents, alumni, neighbors and friends can take part, too.

GWA's school code is 125793.

Check Our Progress

Wow!  CRT Results are in for Spring 2011 and our students and teachers did an amazing job!  As a school, we were 90% Proficient in Language Arts and 94% Proficient in Math.  This is well above the state and Washington County schools average.  Our curriculum and philosophy DO make a difference!

As parents, we bring our children to GWA for many different reasons.  Some come for the rigorous curriculum, some for the discipline inherent with uniforms, some because they know their kids will excel in the charter atmosphere.  Whatever our own reasons for coming, we all share a desire to see the results of our efforts.  Here's one place we can do that.

Each year, the Utah State Office of Education (USOE) collects test data from all Utah schools.  These data are then made public via the USOE web site at http://www.schools.utah.gov.

On this webpage you can search for the UPASS report of all the schools in Utah.  First select the school year: 2010-2011.

To find George Washington's report:  Select "Charter" and find George Washington Academy in the drop-down menu and also in the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page.  Then click the button "Generate Reports".  On the next page, under UPASS, click 2010-2011.

To find the results for the Washington County School District (WCSD), select "State, District" and find Washington District in the drop-down menu.  At the bottom of the page is a drop-down menu to select the school.  Then click the button "Generate Reports".  On the next page, under UPASS, click 2010-2011.
